In the United States, most people under age 65 are covered by private health insurance that they or their family members obtain through their employers (referred to as employment-based, or group, coverage). 

Affordable Care Act plans

also known as Obama Care

The ACA was designed to reduce the cost of health insurance coverage for people who qualify for it. The law includes premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions to help lower expenses for lower-income individuals and families.

Medicare

Before 1965, when Medicare was enacted, people over 65 had very little health coverage, if any. Insurance companies refused to cover those 65 and over because of the huge risk of paying out for services. Congress passed this law to eliminate this issue for seniors.

Small Groups

Small business health insurance plans are typically tailored for groups of fewer than fifty.  Employers with fewer than fifty full-time workers (or the equivalent in part-time workers) are not required to offer coverage to their employees under the ACA.

Supplemental Insurance

such as vision, dental, accident, critical illness, cancer, heart, stroke, cancer, lung, and disability insurance.
